Granite is a natural stone, so no two slabs match. You pick the actual piece off the rack rather than a sample chip — which is the whole reason the yard is here.

The granite we cut most
Finishes
Polished is not your only option
- Polished — the familiar mirror finish. Brightest, and the easiest to keep clean.
- Honed — matte and soft. Shows fingerprints and water more than polished does, and looks wonderful on a darker stone.
- Leathered — a light texture you can feel, somewhere between the two. It hides marks better than either, and it is worth asking about: we cut a lot of it and most shops this size do not.
Not every slab can be given every finish. Ask us what the stone you like will take, and we will tell you straight.
Edges and islands
Edges, miters, waterfall islands and outdoor kitchens
Every edge is profiled and finished by hand in our shop. The edge profiles we offer:
- 1/4" roll
- 1/4" bevel
- Eased and polished
- Half bullnose
- Full bullnose
- Ogee
- Chiseled
- Mitered edges — a strip of the same slab is mitered to the front edge, so the counter reads as one thicker piece of stone. On a mitered edge we recommend an eased and polished profile.
- Waterfall islands — the stone turns down the end of the island to the floor. We build them regularly.
- Full-height backsplashes — stone carried up the wall behind the counter.
- Outdoor kitchens — yes, we do outdoor kitchen countertops. Tell us it is going outside when you ask for a quote.
Log cabins, lake houses, modern and mountain-modern builds: we cut for all of them, and we do several lake houses a week.
Repairs
We did not install it? We will still look at it
Chips, a cracked seam, a loose or dropped sink, a top that has never been sealed properly — we repair granite whoever installed it. Send a photograph and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth repairing or worth replacing.
Living with granite
- It is sealed at installation. Water should bead on the surface; when it stops beading it wants resealing — a ten-minute job every one to three years, depending on the stone. We tell you which at install.
- Warm water and mild soap for everyday cleaning. Skip the harsh degreasers and the abrasive creams.
- Hot pans will not hurt it. A trivet is still a good habit.
- Granite is hard, not indestructible — a chip at an edge or a sink cutout is the usual injury, and it is usually repairable.

How long does a granite countertop take?
For most kitchens, about a week from laser template to installed countertops. Your quote confirms the schedule for your project.
What affects the price?
Mostly the stone you pick and how much of it the job takes. After that: the edge profile, how many sink and cooktop cutouts there are, the backsplash, taking out old countertops, and how far we travel. Remnants cost less than full slabs, which makes them the easy way into natural stone for a vanity or a laundry top. Estimates are free, so tell us about the job and we will price it.
Do you subcontract any of the work?
No. Our own crew templates, fabricates, and installs every job. The people who measure your kitchen are the people who cut it and the people who set it.
Do you warranty your work?
Yes. We warranty our work. Ask us for the details on your project.
Can a remnant do the job?
Often, for a vanity, a laundry top, a bar top or a small island. We keep 800+ remnants and 500+ partial slabs to pick from.
How far do you travel?
Across western North Carolina, north Georgia and eastern Tennessee — 55 mountain towns in all.

We love Western NC. The tradeoff is that some things are much harder to find than in a big city, or at least that there is far less selection. With that being said Murphy Granite Outlet is an exception to that.
