Natural stone

Quartzite Countertops

Harder than granite, formed from sandstone under heat and pressure, and the stone more and more mountain kitchens are asking for by name.

95 quartzite installs across 27 towns, the first in 2017

Counted from our own invoices. Our records begin in 2015; the shop has been cutting stone since 2007.

Quartzite is a natural stone, so every slab is one of a kind — you pick the actual piece off the rack, not a sample chip. It takes heat, resists scratching better than most granite, and wants sealing like any natural surface.

Worth knowing

About Fantasy Brown

Fantasy Brown is sold across this trade as a quartzite, and it is the stone we have installed more of than any other. It is not a quartzite — it is a dolomitic marble. That matters in a kitchen: it is softer, it will etch where an acid sits on it, and it wants more care around citrus and vinegar than a true quartzite does. We will still happily cut it for you, and plenty of our customers love theirs. We would just rather you hear what it is from us first.

Living with quartzite

  • Seal it on installation and re-seal as the shop advises — the same routine as granite.
  • Hot pans are fine on true quartzite; a trivet is still the habit worth keeping.
  • Wipe spills rather than letting them stand, especially on the paler stones.
  • Everyday cleaning is warm water and mild soap. Skip the abrasive creams.

What customers say

We love Western NC. The tradeoff is that some things are much harder to find than in a big city, or at least that there is far less selection. With that being said Murphy Granite Outlet is an exception to that.

Murphy Granite Outlet was a very positive experience from our first visit to completed installation. The staff is professional, kind, knowledgeable, and very easy to work with. Once we found the slabs we loved, measurement and installation followed quickly.
